Leica announce new addition to the M lens range - the 28mm f/1.4 ASPH Summilux-M

Leica have announced a new addition to their M lens line up - the new Leica 28mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH in Black anodised finish.

This is the first time Leica have introduced this focal length with a f/1.4 maximum aperture.

The new lens looks to be ideal for photo-journalism, architecture and street photography in any lighting condition.

With supreme sharpness at maximum aperture photographers will be able to take advantage of the thin depth of field available to isolate their subjects while still giving a sense of environment.

This new lens is sure to be popular for low-light work and is an idea companion for the new Leica M Monochrome typ 246.

Each lens is hand made and uses the very best optical and mechanical construction for supreme performance at all apertures and focus distances.

The Summilux-M 1:1,4/28mm ASPH. is the first Leica lens which combines such a high aperture and focal length. It completes the high speed prime lens family. Thanks to its high sharpness in the focal plane and low depth of field, the image quality is unmistakable. In this way the subjects can be isolated from their surroundings with crystal clarity to create images with a unique visual signature. This makes it ideal for reportage photography and also for architecture and landscapes. The lens provides excellent imaging performance in all lighting situations. Notwithstanding these features it remains the perfect compact sized companion.

The lens consists of ten elements in seven groups. It includes an aspherical lens-element and a floating element, which guarantee a high image quality to its minimum focusing distance of 0,7m.

The lens ensures a superb colour correction with its three cemented elements and seven lens-elements with anomalous partial dispersion. Reaching from infinity to its minimum focusing distance the lens offers exceptional imaging performance with high contrast across the complete focusing range.
