London 2012 torch-bearer returns to Park Cameras

A year ago, the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games kicked off a fantastic summer of sport, and last week local resident Lorraine Mercer visited Park Cameras to show off her uniform and Olympic torch after participating in the Torch relay on July 17th 2012.

Lorraine, an existing Park Cameras customer, visited our showroom in the Spring of 2012 to use the studio that we have as part of our education suite for a number of pre-event photos showcasing her various trophies and awards from her Riding for the Disabled achievements, as well as her coveted Blue Peter Gold 50 Badge.

Lorraine was born with shortened limbs and has constant pain but this does not let her disabilities from thalidomide impair her work for dozens of local charities.

Ms Mercer, said: "It was a really proud moment for me to carry the torch and felt like I was running with the torch across a sunset beach with no need for wheels. I wanted so much to be a torchbearer because I cannot compete in the Paralympics but carrying the Torch is something I can do if given the chance. I am so proud to represent my country and bring honour to all us Thals – especially those that didn’t make it like us to the 50th year. This was a very special event that will never be repeated. It’s like a dream”.
