Events to Photograph June 2014 in and around London.

June sees a large number of events ideal for you to flex your photographic skills on - a selection of which are detailed below.
With most of these events, please check with the organisers for full details and timings.

Wednesday 4th June
State opening of Parliament. The Mall. SW1A 2WH.
The Queen travels from Buckingham Palance, down the Mall to the Palace of Westminster for the state opening of parliament.

Friday 6th – Sunday 8th June
Polo in the Park. Hurlingham Park, Hurlingham, London SW6 3NG
3 day world series Polo event. With horses thundering round the field of play Polo is an exciting sport to photograph. A long lens and fast shutter speed are essential!

Friday 6th-Saturday 21st June
Sptalfields Music Festival. Christ church Spitalfields, Commercial Street, E1 6LY
Classical, folk and contemporary dance music all take their place in this lively festival – a great chance for photos of musicians in action. Old Spitalfields Market is a great place to catch some of the performers too.

Wednesday 4th June -Saturday 7th June
The Venture Cup 2014. St Katherines Docks, E1 1TW.
Worlds longest and toughest Powerboat race starts in the heart of London on the Greenwch Meridian on 7th June at 9.30am. From the 4th the Fanzone is open at St Katherines Docks including the full race fleet on static display, stalls, art installations – a lot to photograph!

Wednesday 4th June -Saturday 7th June
Four day festival of Caribbean food and music. The Scoop at More London, The Queens Walk, SE1 2DB.
A four day street party of Latin and Caribbean food and music below the Mayor's office on the Southbank. Colourful, lively and entertaining!

Saturday 7th June.
London Nocturne - cycle races around Smithfield Market. Smithfield Market, Charterhouse Street, EC1A 9PQ.
International cyclists race around Smithfield Market together with Penny Farthing races and every type of cycle you can think of. Free event, pop-up food stalls etc.

Saturday 7th June
Trooping the Colour rehearsal – The Major Generals review.
The Mall and Horseguards Parade from about 10am.
Your chance to photograph the spectacular Trooping the Colour parade without the crowds. This is the last rehearsal before the actual event on the following Saturday. Position yourself along the Mall and you will see all the troops, horses, carriages etc go past on their way to Horseguards. No entry to Horseguards for the actual trooping but plenty of photo opportunities to and from Horseguards.

Sunday 8th June
Gumball 3000 Rally. Regent Street , W1B 5AH
A day of car displays, extreme sports demonstrations and Live Music and the chance to see around 120 Supercars before they start the race.

Sunday 8th June
Canoe Slalom World Cup. Lee Valley White Water centre, Station Road, Waltham Cross,EN9 1AB
Monday 9th-Sunday 15th June
The chance to see team GB and others tackle the spectacular lee Valley course. £8 adults £4 children to get in - fast shutter speed essential!

Monday 9th - Sunday 15th June
AEGON Tennis Championship. The Queens Club, Palliser Road, W14 9EQ.
Great chance to capture top tennis stars at the Queens club event. Ground admission tickets are available and aim to stay all day as later in the day you may be able to get grandstand positions. Plenty of photo opportunities.

Saturday 14th June
Trooping The Colour. The Mall, Horseguards.
The full event including members of the Royal Family. The best places are along the Mall and you need to arrive early to get to the front. After the trooping, there is a parade back to Buckingham Palace and then an appearance by the Royal family on the balcony at the front of the palace for the Flypast.

Saturday 14th June
World Naked Bike Ride. Regents Park ,Inner Circle, NW1 4NR.
A series of different categories of riders all with a ride as bare as you dare policy. Concludes at Wellington Arch at around 5.30pm.

Tuesday 17th-Saturday 21st June
Royal Ascot. Ascot Racecourse, Ascot, SL5 7JX
Top class horse racing and plenty of opportunities for people pictures. Best to buy tickets in advance.

Wednesday 18th – Sunday 22nd June
Taste of London. Regents Park, Inner Circle, NW1 4NR.
Over 40 restaurants, top chefs, live Jazz and Opera all combine to a greatr photo opportunity – again tickets in advance are advised!

Friday 20th-Sunday 28th June
Greenwich and Docklands International Festival. Greenwich; SE10 9HF.
Nine day festival of street performances, art and dancing in the streets. Huge programme of events and performances – a street photographers dream!

Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd June
West end LIVE 2014. Trafalgar Square, WC2N 5DS.
Two days of free performances from the cast of shows like Billy Elliot, The Bodyguard, Jersey Boys etc.

City of London Festival – all over the City of London.
Over 100 events of music, dance and Art.

Monday 23rd June – Sunday 6th July
Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championship. All England Tennis club, Church Road, SW19 5AE.
Great chance to picture world class tennis. Arrive early and queue for ground admission and you will be able to see matches on the outside courts. Watch out for later in the day as grandstand seats are re-sold once vacated and you may get the chance to photograph Murray, Nadal etc!

Saturday 28th June
Pride in London. Trafalgar Square, WC2N 5DS.
Colourful parade in celebration of freedom and equal rights. Starts in Baker Street, goes along Oxford Street and Regent Street and finishes in Trafalgar Square. A great chance to photograph colourful characters!

Saturday 28th June
Park Cameras London Photowalk with professional tips - Camden Town.
