Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS Macro review

The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS Macro is the latest in a line of Sigma Macro lenses and certainly one of the best so far produced.

Independent tests have shown it to be at least a match for the camera manufacturers own optics in this range and with the current special pricing at Park Cameras it really is quite a bargain.

Sigma say of the optical design:
The lens power layout produces excellent optical performance. High refractive index SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass corrects chromatic aberration, spherical aberration and field curvature. It ensures high rendering performance at all shooting distances. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, maintaining quality images with high contrast.

Its quite a chunky lens and extremely well built.

Focussing does not alter the size of the lens at all as it is performed internally.

Autofocus is extremely fast at normal distances – the image literally leaps in to focus.

At closer distances the design allows for slower focussing speeds to avoid missing the subject with the extremely small depth of field when working close-up.

The Optical stabiliser is extremely effective and a very welcome addition to this type of lens and the lens is very resistant to flare.

Two lens hoods are provided, one for full format or 35mm cameras and a deeper hood hood extension for use with APS-C (or DX) cameras. A Nice padded case is also included and a 3-year warranty from Sigma UK when you register your lens online.

So to conclude, the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens represents a very real alternative to the camera manufacturers optics at a very attractive price and comes highly recommended.
