Sony launch upgrades to two models - the RX100 IV and the RX10 II

The Sony RX100 has long been considered as the best of the truly pocket able compact digital cameras from the original RX100 through to the RX100 III. Now Sony has announced a further refined model the RX100 IV as well as an update to the superb RX10 - the RX10 II.
Apart from the un-imaginative names (if it ain't broke don't fix it!) what is new about these new models?

Basically, both have received considerable upgrades to their imaging sensor so a new 1" 20mp stacked CMOS design called Exmor RS is included in both models.

This next generation CMOS technology separates the photosensitive regions and supporting circuitry in to different layers, which then maximises the proportion of each pixel so that it can be light sensitive and allows more sophisticated processing to be completed on-chip.

Sony have also added DRAM memory within the chip itself which massively increases processing speed (5x) for impressively fast frame rates - the RX10 can achieve 14fps at full resolution, the RX-100 IV up to 16fps - and allows for 4K video at bitrates up to 100Mbps.

It also means that shooting slow motion at 1,000 fps (40x slow motion) is also possible!

Both the RX10 II and RX100 IV receive a viewfinder upgrade from the 1.44m unit fitted in the previous models to a new 2.35m dot XGA OLDE electronic viewfinder matching the viewfinder resolution of the superb new A7R II.

The body design of both models remains unchanged with the RX10 featuring a superb Zeiss 24-200mm f/2.8 lens and the RX100 IV an equally impressive Zeiss 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 equivalent lens.

The RX100 IV has also received an upgrade to its AF system offering response time of just 0.09 seconds!

Both new models feature an electronic anti-distortion shutter for shutter durations down to 1/32000 sec which will allow open aperture shooting in even very bright light -especially in conjunction with the built in ND filter of the RX100 IV.

So, two fantastic models with leading-edge sensor technology in the ultra-compact pocket able and Bridge camera sectors - models which competitors will find it hard to compete with!

If you would like to be one of the first owners of one (or both) these new models please contact us on 01444 23 70 70 or visit us in our Burgess Hill or Central London stores.

Sony have indicated that stock will be expected 'Summer 2015' and the price is yet to be confirmed (although here at Park Cameras, we will of course be competitive!).
You can learn more about the current line-up of products from Sony by visiting Park Cameras at our Imaging Festivals on Saturday 20th June (Burgess Hill) or Saturday 27th June (London) where a technical expert from Sony UK will be in store! Learn more at www.parkcameras.com/festival2015.
