Panasonic Lumix S1 Firmware Update V-Log 10-bit Internal Video

Panasonic Lumix S1

Panasonic have announced the much anticipated firmware upgrade for the Lumix S1. Available from July, it’s packed full of new features.

V-Log

The new firmware upgrade for the Lumix S1 adds V-Log recording which gives you 14 stops of V-Log recording. This means you can capture more detail in both the shadows and the highlights while you are shooting and colour grading in post becomes much easier.

10-bit Internal Video

The new upgrade also adds the world’s first 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 25/30p internal video recording with no time limit. That means that without an external monitor, you can still achieve an incredibly high level of video quality.

Using the HDMI output, you will also be able to output at 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 60/50p.

As well as the V-Log recording, there will also be in-camera LUT application enabling playback of V-Log while or after recording, perfect for making sure you’ve nailed the shot in the field.

Our Verdict

We loved shooting with the Lumix S1 when we went hands on with it, for photography but especially for shooting video. This upgrade improves on what were already very impressive video specs and give more tools to capture professional video using this camera. The V-Log combined with the 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video captures so much extra detail both in dynamic range and colour information and makes editing and colour grading much easier and much more flexible.

Panasonic also announced the Lumix S1H, a video focused camera with incredible specs and the new G Series 10-25mm f/1.7 Leica Lens.
