Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens for Nikon Z in More Detail

Outstanding image quality

Delivering unparalleled image quality within its class, the Tamron standard zoom lens incorporates cutting-edge design with an optical configuration comprising 17 elements in 15 groups. By strategically positioning two LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Moulded Aspherical) lens elements, optical aberrations are effectively controlled, ensuring high-resolution performance across the entire zoom range, even at wide apertures.

Furthermore, its compact size and exceptional performance make it an ideal companion for premium, ultra-high-resolution mirrorless cameras such as the Nikon Z8, Z7 II and Z6 II. The fast aperture facilitates the creation of soft, round bokeh, which particularly enhances portrait photography, and other subject-driven genres where foreground / background subject operation is desirable.

High-speed AF system

Whether capturing subjects from MOD to infinity or tracking fast-moving objects, the lens delivers reliable focus accuracy, even at its widest f/2.8 aperture. Furthermore, the AF motor operates quietly, making it suitable for noise-sensitive environments, for both still photography and video recording.

Close minimum object distance

With an impressive minimum object distance (MOD) of just 0.18m at the wide end, the 28-75mm F2.8 G2 lens allows for creative close-up shots. Achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7, it enables eye catching macro photography, capturing detailed subjects while maintaining a wide background view for visually striking compositions.

Looking to sell your Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens for Nikon Z?

Our Verdict

This is the first time the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 is made available for Nikon Z mount, and it’s a high performing standard zoom, which deserves serious consideration.

As only the fourth Tamron lens for Z cameras, the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) offers a distinct zoom range, which is slightly wider than the outstanding 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Nikon Z. The two models share plenty of characteristics, which set Tamron apart from other options, such as the high-speed VXD autofocus system and second-generation design updates.

For creators this means the benefits of a versatile zoom, which is well-suited for capturing various subjects, from portraits to landscapes, cityscapes, travel and more. Its moisture-resistant structure and fluorine coating protect the front element, while the BBAR-G2 Coating minimises flare and ghosting. Despite these enhancements, the lens remains compact and lightweight, making it an excellent choice for everyday use.

When you consider the excellent image quality, improved resolution, focusing, and design updates, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens for Nikon Z is a tempting proposition. A close focusing distance allows for creative close-ups, and the lens also offers enhanced usability with Tamron Lens Utility software, making it a versatile and user-friendly option for photographers and videographers.
