Best a3 photo printer in 2017: Canon PIXMA iP8750

The Canon PIXMA iP8750 is a premium but affordable printer, that can print outstanding high quality images and documents too, anywhere from 10 x 15 cm up to A3+. It features a 6 colour system including a dedicated grey ink, which together produce vivid colour and impressive monochrome prints at resolutions up to 9600dpi.

Thanks to its single ink system, you only need to replace the colour of the particular ink tank that has run out, and it can also accommodate Canon’s optional XL inks, which deliver efficiencies of up to 30%. Its dye-based inks (C, M, Y, GY, and BK) produce incredibly rich colour photos, and its pigment black ink (PBK) ensures any text in your documents is crisp and well-defined. The inks utilise Canon’s Chroma life100+ system, which ensures your images will remain vibrant for many decades to come.

The PIXMA iP8750 offers wireless connectivity, so you can use it anywhere in your home or office, print images directly from wireless cameras with Wireless PictBridge, as well as print directly from your smart devices through the use of Canon’s PRINT app. It also supports Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.

The iP8750 comes complete with Canon’s My Image Garden software, that allows you to browse through your images and create inspiring designs for printing, as well as the option to print onto printable discs. In addition, Canon’s CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM service gives you access to a plethora of high quality creative content.

Although it has an RRP of £349.99, this award-winning printer is a bargain at only £199.00 at Park Cameras.

Epson Expression Photo XP-960

Best A3 Printers 2017 Epson Expression Photo XP-960

Using Epson's six-colour Claria Photo HD ink system is ideal for the XP-960 as it gives superior quality, long lasting images with smooth tonal gradations, deep natural blacks and rich, vibrant colours.

With Epson Connect, you can connect the XP-960 to either a smartphone or tablet via the iPrint app to give you truly wireless printing and scanning. With Epson Email Print it's possible to print from anywhere in the world, simply by emailing your images directly to your printer. And for versatility, Wi-Fi Direct allows for printing directly from compatible wireless devices without the need for a network connection.

A 10.9cm interactive LCD touch screen makes the Epson Expresson XP-960 incredibly easy to use and makes navigation and printing directly from a memory card quick and simple. There's also a motorised contorl panel and output tray for truly hassle-free printing.

With two front-loading paper trays it's easy to switch between A3 and A4 sizeed printing, and printing onto thicker media up to A3 size is possible with a rear speciality media feed. A4 duplex printing helps save time and reduce paper usage.

Park Cameras price: £549.00

Epson SureColor SC-P400 A3 Photo Printer

Moving up in price, the Epson SureColor SC-P400 is one of the smallest and lightest A3+ printers available and is simple and intuitive to use, energy efficient, and produces brilliant images.

It utilises professional seven-colour UltraChrome HiGloss 2 pigment inks with a gloss optimiser to achieve outstanding colour reproduction, and like the Epson Stylus Photo 1500W features a very small ink droplet size - at just 1.5pl - for exceptional detail.

It has dual paper paths, is compatible with up to 1.3mm thickness paper - matte, glossy, and fine art papers are supported - and you can conveniently load paper from the rear of the printer. Additionally, you can print on 2 inch core roll media for panoramic prints and individual formats, as well as having the option to print onto CDs and DVDs.

The SC-P400 has built-in Ethernet and USB connections, as well as Wi-Fi connectivity - which lets you print directly from PCs, tablets, and smartphones through the use of the Epson iPrint App. To add to its impressive feature list, the Surecolor SC-P400 is EnergyStar 2.0 compliant and consumes very little power.

Canon Pixma PRO-10S

Best a3+ photo printer of 2017 - Canon Pixma PRO-10S

Second to last in our lineup and our equally most expensive model in this review is the fantastic Canon Pixma PRO-10S A3+ inkjet photo printer - the sibling of the aforementioned Canon Pixma PRO-100S, which uses pigment-based inks as opposed to dye-based ones, so produces images which have greater longevity.

It features similar abilities to the PRO-100S mentioned above; the use of the Pro Gallery Print app, cloud storage service direct printing, printing from smartphones and tablets, direct Photoshop and Lightroom compatibility, specialist art paper compatibility, and Direct Disc Print functionality.

In addition, it uses LUCIA inks, which combine the glossy appearance and vivid colours offered by dye-based inks with the permanence of pigment-based inks, and its Chroma Optimizer ink further enhances your images’ glossy appearance, while increasing the range of colours and flattening the print surface.

The 10-ink pigment-based system in the Canon PIXMA PRO-10S delivers precise and durable prints to gallery quality and includes three dedicated monochrome inks to guarantee amazing black and white prints, making this a top choice for an A3+ photo printer.

Epson SureColor SC-P600

With the ability to produce an 11x14 inch print in only 153 seconds, Wi-Fi direct connectivity for easy connectivity over the cloud, and a large 2.7 inch colour touch screen, the SC-P600 is easy to use and built for delivering high quality images quickly and easily.

It would have been helpful if the review of each printer had mentioned a per cartridge price together with the full set price for dye/pigment ink replenishment.

Your actually advertising the Epson Surecolor SC-P400 at a higher price than the RRP i.e. £454 as opposed to £441.30 RRP.
Not sure you've got that right?

Will Ablett said...

Oops! Looks like we had the wrong price for the Epson SC-P400, we've updated it now, thanks for letting us know, CD Imaging!

Really useful review. As others have said, a price per print would be useful too (or at least the volume of ink in the cartridge so you could work out the cost per ml of ink).
Also, one of the biggest costs of inkjets is the ink they flush through the heads in the cleaning cycle. It would be good to understand which wasted more/less ink, because this also adds to the cost of ownership. Thanks.
