Olympus E-PL3 review

The Olympus PEN E-PL3 is the mid-level Olympus PEN camera that gives SLR image quality. The E-PL3 slightly departs from the retro style of its predecessors and its bigger brother the Olympus PEN E-P3 but still keeps the charm we have grown to love about the Olympus cameras.

Using the E-PL3 is a very smooth and easy operation that caters to both experience photographers and amateurs who want to be able to just pick up a digital camera and go. Despite its compact and sleek design it still features a comprehensive amount of external controls that means you can get to the settings you want without needing to go through the menus each time. The iAuto really stood out, making taking photos a breeze, but giving a surprisingly large amount of control with easy to understand terms. It also lets you see in real time the effects it has on the photo.

The Olympus E-PL3 can really help show your creative side with its 6 art filters that can completely transform your images From Pop Art that makes the photo bright and fun to Dramatic Tone that gives the image a very surreal and dark look.

The35 point auto focus is very fast and can easily keep up with the current mid-level DSLR cameras and with its 5.5 FPS you should never miss a shot. Olympus also added a tilt able LCD display to the E-PL3 which adds a lot of flexibility in how you can take photos.
Olympus have improved the video side of the E-P3 now offering full HD video with AVCHD to provide high quality video without filling up your hard drive, and with Olympus MSC (Movie and Stills compatible) lenses  you will also get fast and near silent autofocus.

Overall the Olympus E-PL3 has shown that the compact system cameras can in many ways compete, and in some cases excel, above the traditional digital SLR cameras.
