Report on Photo walk Three - The City of London and Brick lane area

I was delighted to lead Park Cameras Photo Walk Three around the City of London and the Brick Lane area on Saturday 3rd May and thought I would share my experiences on the Blog.

We met at Liverpool Street Station - 15 hardy Photo Walkers, myself and David from Park London all ready for a photographic adventure.

We set off after a pre-walk briefing towards Brick Lane via Fashion Street. The mix of old and new architecture combined with a crisp clear spring day meant plenty of photo opportunities on the way for our happy band.

On arrival at Fashion street, the street art possibilities were excellent and our group set about capturing the street art and juxtaposing with the architecture and passers by.

Some help with composition and camera settings plus seeing pictures in a scene was well received by the walkers.

We then carried on to Brick Lane exploring the side streets and finding truly amazing street art - some covering the whole sides of buildings several stories high. With the light being so strong reflections were everywhere and gave great creative possibilities.

A coffee stop at the Old Trueman brewery followed, then we set off for Spitalfields Market where there was lovely light through the roof-lights and great photo opportunities.

From there we headed back past Liverpool Street and to the 'Gherkin' - a really impressive piece or architecture and again a great source of reflections and juxtapositions.

Around the corner from the Gherkin, we visited the Lloyds building - and luckily were there while some of the windows were being cleaned so got the chance to capture water droplets cascading down the side of the building. Again reflections were everywhere.

We then headed through Leadenhall Market - with thousands of flags and lovely soft light - through to the Royal exchange and Bank of England.

We then headed down to St Pauls Cathedral where the walk formally concluded - from there walkers walked across the Millennium bridge to the South Bank or simply enjoyed the historic setting of St. Pauls.

If this sounds like something you would like to join, our Photo walk series covers 6 areas of London and run roughly once per month.

The next walk is on Saturday 31st May and covers Historic Greenwich with great landscape and architecture shots available as well as street photography. You can book your place here.

All our walks include free tuition and as the walk leader I am available at all times to answer your questions or help out with settings or suggestions.

All Photowalkers are invited to join the exclusive Park Cameras Photo Walk group on Flickr and for each walk the best picture uploaded to the group wins a free A2 sized print of their image courtesy of Park cameras.
